How New York State can be an Island of Sanity and Compassion

Republicans have total control of the federal government. They want to dismantle our already fragile healthcare system. The New York Health Act is one way to protect New Yorkers from the coming onslaught and to guarantee everyone in the state can access the healthcare they need without financial barriers. According to an economic analysis of the New York Health Act, 98% of us would pay less for our health care. Not only is passing New York Health the right thing to do, it’s economically responsible. If all 32 Democrats in the NYS Senate would sponsor New York Health, we could get this bill to the Governor’s desk to be signed into law. We can do this! If you think healthcare is a human right, call your state Senator and invite your friends to do the same! Demand universal single payer healthcare for all New Yorkers. Demand the New York Health Act!

This Friday, please join New Yorkers all over the state in calling your state senator in support of the New York Health Act.
The New York Health Act, sponsored in the state Senate by Senator Bill Perkins, would guarantee healthcare to ALL New Yorkers regardless income, wealth, employment, or immigration status. Everyone, rich or poor, rural or urban, upstate or down, deserves access to quality healthcare.

If you agree, plan to call your senator on Friday and spread the word through your networks! The bill will be introduced shortly, so we don’t have the new bill number yet, but you can tell your Senator the bill number from last year’s session was S3525. Please help make the Statewide Call-In Day a success by calling your own state Senator and also Senator Jeff Klein, leader of the Independent Democratic Conference:

1. Calling Your State Senator. Look them up here,

https://www.nysenate.gov/find-mysenator, or dial the NYS Senate Switchboard at (518) 455-2800.

You will be asked to give your zip code and the operator will connect you to your Senator’s office. Here is a sample script: “Hello. My name is ________. I am calling to urge Senator _______ to sponsor the New York Health Act [S3525 from last session, will be introduced again very soon] this session because healthcare is a human right. With the Affordable Care Act under attack by Republicans in Congress, Senator ______ can take action to guarantee healthcare for all of us in New York by supporting New York Health.”

If they respond that your Senator is already a sponsor, say THANK YOU and urge them to promote the bill to their Senate colleagues.

Calling Senator Jeff Klein (518-455-3595), head of the Independent Democratic Conference. Here is a sample script: “Hello. My name is ________ and I am calling from ________. I am calling to urge Senator Klein to sponsor the New York Health Act [S3525 from last session, will be introduced again very soon] this session. As leader of the IDC, Senator Klein, and all the IDC senators, need to take action to guarantee healthcare for all New Yorkers. With the Affordable Care Act under attack by Republicans in Congress, it’s critical they take action by supporting New York Health.”

2. Forwarding this email to 5 friends.

3. Sharing and inviting your friends and contacts to the event on Facebook.

4. Tweeting! Here are 2 sample tweets:
A. Stand up for #allofus in NY @JeffKleinNY Plz sponsor #NewYorkHeath to guarantee #healthcare4all regardless wealth or employment status
B. 2 million New Yorkers have no health insurance. This equals 2000 preventable deaths each year. Plz Sponsor #NewYorkHealth @SenDaveV

This is a way to get in the game and no one can afford to sit this one out.  On behalf of all my patients, colleagues, friends and fellow citizens.

  1. Scientists are discovering more and more about the connections between dental health and the health of our entire body. If our eyes are the windows to our soul, then our mouth is the front door to our body and the teeth may well be the windows to our health, according to mounting evidence that suggests there is a strong link between them. Which is something I have been saying as a holistic dentist for many years. CocoSlimmer
